EELC is participating in J&E 10th Annual General Meeting in Budapest

Justice & Environment (J&E), the European Network of Enivornmental Law Organisations, is holding its 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Budapest during this week; Kärt Vaarmari and Siim Vahtrus are the representatives of the EELC. The main topics of discussion will be summarizing recent developments and possible ways forward on access to justice in environmental matters.

This year, J&E primary fields of action have been environmental rights (foremost access to justice in environmental matters), considering importance of climate change in environmental impact assessment of projects, and environmental liability. In addition to J&E members and partners, J&E AGM is hosting Adam Nagy from the DG Environment of European Commission, in order to facilitate discussion about the draft of Access to Justice directive.

J&E is an association consisting of environmental law organizations from thirteen different European countries; EELC is a member of the network from its creation. J&E aims at improving environmental legislation and its implementation at both national and EU level. To achieve this aim, studies and analyses are compiled; results of these are used by Brussels-based environmental organizations and EU institutions. In addition to that, the members of J&E and the organization itself have also initiated several court proceedings in order to draw attention to the shortcomings in legislation or its implementation.
