The article provides an introduction to general environmental obligations provided in Articles 16-22 of the General Part of the Environmental Code Act (GPECA). The most important and abstract obligations are the requirement to avoid environmental hazards and reduce environmental risks related to operator’s activity. The obligations are on the one hand enforced by public authorities, but on the other should also be fulfilled by the operators on their own initiative. Due to their abstract nature, the obligations’ exact contents change in time. In order to fulfill their obligations, operators must continuously update their knowledge and assess whether their activities comply with the requirements.
